Pigmail #2

Share

Dearest hoglets (nickname kindly suggested by Charlie),

A bit of an abbreviated Pigmail this week, I'm afraid, as I've spent the better portion of this week sound asleep while suffering from a cold.

Given that I have the sort of constitution that has seen me compared to Colin from The Secret Garden by multiple different people throughout my life, you might think I have some sort of fun hacks or useful tips for getting through colds or similar bugs. Alas! My only tips are as follows:

  1. Eat as much as possible (esp veg and protein)
  2. Sleep as much as possible
  3. Drink as much water as possible
  4. Don't overpay for branded medicine BUT it's worth getting the paracetamol + caffeine tablets when you're bored of lying around and want to actually attempt a normal day again

They aren't exactly revolutionary but I did get praised by a pharmacist earlier this year for my excellent self-care, which made me feel like a little Pomeranian receiving a blue ribbon at a county show. Unfortunately, I was then told that one of my tonsils is naturally larger than normal, which got recorded in my notes using the word "bulky". At least Pomeranians can't understand the comments being made about them by the judging panel. I didn't even get a little chicken treat about it.

  1. My favourite D&D actual play show, Not Another D&D Podcast, will soon be embarking on arc 2 of its Skaldova campaign, so I've been relistening to the first campaign while drifting in and out of consciousness this week. It's very funny! I remembered how much I enjoyed it the first time, but I had forgotten a lot of specific jokes and character choices, which are truly bonkers in the best way. Available in all good podcatchers!
  2. The Great British Sewing Bee (BBC) finished its 12th series this week and crowned a very worthy winner. I really enjoyed this series and the designs throughout - I hope Rebecca is still proud of her red satin disco dress, which I will think about forever - and I think it would make for a good sick-day binge in future.
  3. Car Evolve is a phone game in which you fling upgradable cars from an upgradable slingshot and see how far down a track they can go. I play until I'm bored (usually 5-10 flings) and then I move on with my attentions. This is about the maximum level of cognition I've managed this week.

I do feel the will to live returning even as I type this (Thursday evening) so hopefully next week's newsletter will be a little more interesting. Thank you for reading and see you again soon xoxo
